Materials

100 grams of King Cole Melody in Apple (965) random

100 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Cream (046)


OR

3.5oz of Baby Variegated Light Worsted Yarn

3.5oz of Baby Light Worsted Yarn in Cream

4.00mm & 5.00mm crochet hooks

3 small Buttons

2 mts (approx) of 9mm ribbon in Cream


GAUGE - 9dc & 4 rows of dc measure approx 2” square using 4.00mm hook

Start with Yoke (worked in one piece).

Using 4.00mm hook and random colored yarn, ch55, (RS) 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (52dc + ch3)


Row 2 - (Inc) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of the next 4dc, * rpt from

* to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (62dc + ch3)


Row 3 - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.  (62dc + ch3)


Row 4 - (Inc) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of the next 3dc, * rpt from

* to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (77dc + ch3)


Row 5 - as row 3.  (77dc + ch3)


Row  6 - (Inc) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of the next 2dc, * rpt from

* to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (102dc + ch3)


Row 7 - as row 3.  (102dc + ch3)


Row 8 - (Increase) as row 6, until 1dc and ch3 remain, 2dc in dc, 1dc in top of ch3.

(136dc + ch3) Fasten off.


Commence with Skirt - Join in Cream colored yarn and ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip

1dc, 1 shell (see abbrev above) in next dc, skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, rpt from * to *  to last 3dc and ch3, skip 1dc, 1 shell in next dc, skip 1dc, 1sc in top of ch3. (34 shell groups)

Turn.

 

2nd Row - ch3, * 1 Vst (see abbrev) in ch1 space of shell, 1dc in sc, * rpt from * to * to

last shell and ch3, 1 Vst in shell, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.

 

3rd Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1 shell in Vst, 1sc in dc, * rpt from * to * to last Vst

and ch3, 1 shell in Vst, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.


4th Row - (Divide for armholes) ch3, * 1 Vst in ch1 space of shell, 1dc in sc, * rpt from

* to * (3 more times), 1 Vst in ch1 space of next shell,  2dc ch1 in sc, skip 7 shell groups, 2dc in next sc, rpt from * to * (9 more times), 1 Vst in ch1 space of next shell,  2dc, ch1

in sc, skip 7 shell groups, 2dc in next sc, rpt from * to * (4 more times), 1 Vst in ch1 space

of shell, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.


5th  Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1 shell in Vst, 1sc in dc * rpt from * to * (4 more times), 1 shell in ch1 space underarm between dc’s, skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, rpt from * to *

(10 more times), 1 shell in ch1 space underarm between dc’s, skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc,

rpt from * to * to last Vst and ch3, 1 shell in Vst 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (22 shell groups)


The 2nd and 3rd Rows on skirt form the pattern, rpt these 2 rows until 8 shell rows in all have been worked from yoke. Fasten off. Join in random colored yarn and work 2nd and

3rd Rows from skirt once, work measures approx 10.5” from shoulder. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With WS facing, rejoin cream color yarn in sc before first shell on sleeve at the base of armhole, ch3, * 1 Vst in next shell group, 1dc in sc, * rpt from * to * (5 times more), 1 Vst in shell, 1dc in sc at base of armhole on opposite side of sleeve, sl st to top

of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. (7, V stitches)

 

2nd Row - ch1, 1sc in first dc, * 1 shell in Vst, 1sc in dc, * rpt from * to * to last Vst, 1 shell

in Vst, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.


Rpt pattern rows in this way, 1 Vst row then 1 shell row, slip stitching to beginning of row

and turning at the end of each row fo a further 2 more times each until 5 shell rows have

been worked in all from yoke or sleeve seam measures approx 3” under arm. Fasten off.


Cuff -  With random colored yarn ch2, * skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, 1sc in ch1 space, 1sc in next dc, skip 1dc, 1hdc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last shell, skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc,

1sc in ch space, 1sc in next dc, skip 1dc, sl st to top of ch3. Turn. (28 stitches)


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn. Rpt the last row four

more times.


Finishing - Starting at lower edge RS facing and 4.00mm hook, work 41sc evenly in

row ends up front edge, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch around neck to next corner, 3sc in corner, 41sc evenly in row ends down second of front edge. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to neck edge, 3sc in corner, 1sc in

each sc around neck edge, 3sc in corner, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 7sc, * rpt

from * to * once, ch2 skip 1sc, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.


Next Row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc and ch space to neck edge. Fasten off.


With WS facing return to second side and rejoin random yarn to first sc, working from neck edge down, work ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Fasten off.


Tie off and sew in ends.  Sew on 3 buttons at yoke to correspond with buttonhole, use holes in the dc’s as buttonholes. Thread ribbon through dc’s on yoke. (close small gap under arms)


Bonnet - Using cream color yarn and 4.00mm hook ch62, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn (59dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn. Rpt last row 7 more times, until 9 rows in all have been worked or work measures approx 4”, turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.


Next Row - Skip 20dc, rejoin yarn to 21st dc, ch3, 1dc in next 19dc, leave 19dc and ch3

un-worked. Turn. (19dc + ch3).


Continue on these centre stitches, by working 1dc in each dc and 1dc in turning ch, until centre panel fits along side panels. Fasten off.


Fold-Back - Using random colored yarn, 4.00mm hook and WS facing rejoin yarn to

cast on edge at front of bonnet, working on the opposite side of cast on ch, 1sc in base

of ch1, skip ch1, * 1 shell in next ch, skip ch1, 1sc in next ch * rpt from * to * to end working last sc in last ch. Turn. (15 shell groups)


Next Row - ch3, * 1 Vst in ch1 space of next shell, 1dc in sc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in last sc. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1 shell in Vst, 1sc in dc, * rpt from * to * to last Vst and ch3, 1 shell in Vst, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. 


Rpt the last 2 rows once each, making 5 rows in all. Fasten off.


Making up and Finishing - sl st or sew up side seams, turn through to RS, with 4.00mm hook, work 1 row of dc stitch evenly along neck edge catching in fold-back on both sides of bonnet as you go. Fasten off. Sew in and tie off any loose ends, thread ribbon through dc at neck edge.


Booties x 2 - Using 5.00mm Hook ch25, change to 4.00mm hook, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. (24sc). Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 2sc. * rpt from * to * last

2sc, ch2 skip 1sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn.


Next row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc. and ch2 space to end. Turn. (24sc)


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end.  Fasten off. Turn. (will be referred to as ankle further on)


Instep - Skip 8sc, rejoin yarn to 9th sc, ch1, 1sc in base of ch, 1sc in each of next 7sc.

Turn leaving 8sc un-worked.

 

Next row - ch1, 1sc in each of next 8sc. Turn. Rpt last row 6 more times until 8 rows in all have been worked. Turn. Fasten off.


Shape Foot - With RS facing return to first of 8sc that you skipped when making instep on ankle (see last row before instep), rejoin yarn and work ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next 7sc along ankle, 8sc in row ends along instep, 8sc along toe, 8sc in row ends along other side of instep, 8sc along second side of ankle. Turn. (40sc)


Next row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.


Next row (dec row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of the

next 15sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, (twice), 1sc in next 15sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn.


Next row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn. (36sc)


Next row (dec row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of the next 13sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, (twice), 1sc in next 13sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn.


Next row – ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn. (32sc)


Next row (dec row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of the next 11sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, (twice), 1sc in next 11sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in last sc. Fasten off.


Top of Bootie - With RS facing return and rejoin random color yarn to cast on edge at top

of bootie, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip ch1, 1 shell in next ch, skip ch1, 1sc in next ch,

* rpt from * to * to last ch3, skip ch1, 1 shell in next ch, 1sc in last ch. Rpt pattern 2nd and 3rd Rows from skirt. Fasten off. (6 shell groups)


Making up and finishing

With WS facing sew or sl st open seam and fasten off all ends. Turn through to RS. Thread ribbon through ch spaces at ankle and tie in bows.
