Patons Beehive Baby Wool
The Vest
18½ inch underarm – 2 balls
Length from top of shoulder – 10½ ins.
The Pilch Knickers – 2 balls
Length from top to lower edge at centre – 8½ ins.
Two vests or one set (vest and pilch) may be made from 3 balls.
Knitting Needles, 1 pair No. 10, m
Patons Crochet Hook No. 12.
Tension
To get these measurements it is absolutely necessary to work at a tension to produce 8 stitches to the inch in width, measured over stocking stitch.
The Front
Cast on 70sts
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row
Repeat this row until work measures 9½ inches
In the next row: K2, * (P1, K1) nine times, P1, cast off 28sts, K1, (P1, K1) ten times
Work 3″ in rib on the last 21sts, ending at the neck edge. Break off wool.
Leave these sts until the second shoulder has been worked.
Join in wool at the neck edge and work 3 inches in rib on the remaining 21sts, ending at the neck edge.
Cast on 28sts at the end of the last row and work in rib across the 21sts which were left.
Work 9½ inches in rib on these 70sts Cast off.
To Make Up
With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly.
Using a flat seam, sew up side seams for 7″.
Using a crochet hook, work 1 row of (1tr, 1ch), round the neck.
Using three strands of wool 72″ long make a twisted cord and thread through the holes at the neck, attaching a small tassel to each end.
Work 1 row of dc around the armholes.
Finally, press all seams.
The Pilch Knickers
The Front
Cast on 81 stitches.
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.
2nd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows once.
5th row: K2, * yo, K2tog, P1, K1, rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, K2tog, K1.
Rep 2nd row once, then 1st and 2nd rows once.
9th row: K2, * inc. once in next st purlways, K1, P1, K1, rep from * to last 3 sts, inc. once in next st purlways, K2 (101 sts)
10th row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows twenty-seven times.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 7 sts, P1, turn.
2nd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 6 sts, turn.
3rd row: P1, * K1, P1, rep from * to last 12 sts, turn.
Continue in this manner, working 6 sts less in every row until 29 sts remain in centre, turn and work in rib to end of row
Proceed as follows:
1st row: Cast off 36 sts loosely in rib, work in rib to end of row.
2nd row: Cast off 36 sts loosely in rib, work in rib to end of row, cast on 36 sts loosely.
3rd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row, cast on 36 sts loosely
4th row: K2, P1, K1, rep from * to last 37 sts, P1, turn.
5th row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 36 sts, turn.
6th row: P1, * K1, P1, rep from * to last 30 sts, turn.
Continue in this manner, working 6 sts more in every row until all sts are worked on to one needle again.
Work 52 rows without shaping.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 11 sts, P1, turn.
2nd row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 10 sts, turn.
3rd row: * P1, K1, rep from * to last 21 sts, P1, turn.
4th row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to last 20 sts, turn.
Continue in this manner, working 20 sts less at end of every row until 21 sts remain in centre, turn.
In next row: Work in rib to end of row.
In following row, K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: K2, * P2tog, P1, K1, P1, K2tog, K1, P1, K1, rep from * to last 9 sts, P2tog, P1, K1, P1, K2tog, K2 (81 sts).
2nd and 4th rows: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end of row.
3rd row: K2, * P1, K1 rep from * to last st, K1.
5th row: K2, * yo, K2tog, P1, K1, rep from * to last 3 sts yo, K2tog, K1.
Rep 2nd and 3rd rows twice. Cast off
in rib.
To Make Up
