Materials
Coats Mercer-Crochet No. 20 (20 gm) 10 balls.
1 pair Knitting Needles No. 14. (2mm)
The above quantity is sufficient for one Centrepiece, 4 Place Mats and 4 Glass Mats.
Tension
11 sts – 1″ measured over the garter stitch edge.
Measurements:
Centrepiece l8″ in diameter;
Place Mat 13″ in diameter;
Glass Mat 6/12″ in diameter.

CENTREPIECE
Cast on 490 sts. Work 6 rows k.
1st Row of Pattern: * (K2tog) 8 times, k1, (yo, k1) 16 times, (k2tog) 8 times; repeat from * to end.
2nd and alternate Rows: P.
3rd Row: As 1st row.
5th Row: * (K3tog) twice, (k2tog) 5 times, k2, (yo, k1) 13 times, yo, k2, (k2tog) 5 times, (k3tog) twice; repeat from * to end.
7th Row: * (K2tog) 7 times, k2, (yo, k1) 13 times, yo, k2, (k2tog) 7 times; repeat from * to end.
9th Row: As 7th row.

Leave these sts on a spare needle, cutting cotton about 12 inches from fabric. Work another piece in exactly the same way. Thread the end of the second piece through the sts from two pieces and draw up. Fasten off securely, then sew up each seam.
PLACE MAT
Cast on 740 sts.
Work 6 rows k.
Now work as for centrepiece from 19th row.
When pattern is completed cut cotton and draw through the remaining sts, afterwards sewing up the single seam.
GLASS MAT
Cast on 250 sts.
Work 4 rows k.
Now work as for centrepiece from 37th row, afterwards finishing as for place mat.
Press with hot iron and a very damp cloth. See that the knitted fabric becomes quite damp so that when pressed and well pulled out, it can be left to dry flat.
