To keep this simple bookmark laying flat, it is made with 1:1 ribbing at top and bottom, and garter stitch borders. The shape of the cross is made in relief through ktbl’s (knit through the back loop), in a field of reverse stockinette stitch.

This is an outstanding use for small leftover quantities of your most favorite yarns. Lightweight yarns such as sport weight or DK work best.

This project makes an extra thoughtful gift - tuck it into a book or Bible which you are giving. Our church gives graduating seniors Bibles each spring, and each one has a homemade bookmark inside.

The pattern is based on Barbara Walker’s “Arabic Cross” (found in A Treasury of Knitted Patterns.)
