Mittens were the original plan, but things weren’t working out. My inner Girl Scout encouraged me to be experimental and try something else with my circular needles. I’d seen a few smartly cabled hats on the morning T train, and I thought I might be able to come up with a design of my own. I wanted a hat that would fit me snugly, without riding up my hair to the top of my head or stretching out to the size of a purse. Even on my very round head, this hat has stayed true to its shape, thanks to the cables and ribbing. The pattern is very versatile and with a change of colors looks great on both sexes.”
