Last year, I needed a sweater quickly for my bichon when it suddenly turned cold. I had a set of criteria that I couldn’t find with any of the crochet online patterns and, they say, necessity is the mother of invention. Thus, Sammy’s sweater was born.

The sweater is mostly triple crochet and is warm.

  • Easy to pull on/off a dog’s head - no buttons
  • Has holes a leash can slip through
  • Is quick - can be made in an evening
  • Is crocheted in one piece (no seams to sew)
  • Is stylish and is shaped to the dog’s body (no gaps under the belly)
  • My hubby feels comfortable walking our new dog in this sweater (not an easy task for a man walking a bichon) and thinks our doggie looks like he’s wearing a muscle shirt. :)

Sadly, Sammy succumed to cancer this past winter. When I see this pattern and photo I think of him. :)

For now, I provide this pattern “as is”. Please keep in mind that I have not had this pattern “tested” yet but an experienced crocheter should be able to use this pattern.
